May 11th Meeting – MEMBERS ONLY
Our May 11th meeting will be a joint meeting with Sisters in Crime-Central Jersey. Once again, it will be held at the Jamesburg Senior Center 139 Stevens Ave., Jamesburg, NJ. Doors will open at 9:30 am with the program to begin at 10 am.
Our keynote speaker will be Rich Johnson, our February speaker who was rescheduled due to the snowstorm. Rich will discuss graphic novels as an old/new medium and how it relates to the visual world we live in. He’ll also discuss opportunities in the marketplace, the publishers seeking graphic novels, and how they all want your media rights.
Rich is the founder of Brick Road Media, LLC and one of the founding partners in Atomic Clock Entertainment, a film and television production and development company. He’s a former vice president of book trade sales at DC Comics and has also worked as a publishing director at Hachette Book Group. He currently acquires young adult novels for Penguin and oversees Penguin USA’s graphic novel imprint.
Following Rich’s talk, we’ll have a book signing by our afternoon workshop presenters, then a lunch break.
At 1 pm we’ll have a series of three consecutive half-hour writing workshops. Lois Winston will present a workshop on writing query letters, Eileen Watkins will present a workshop on writing the synopsis, and Caridad Pineiro will present a workshop on creating your author brand.
PLEASE NOTE**:
**A continental breakfast (fruit, yogurt, pastries, muffins, bagels, cream cheese, butter, and beverages) and a catered lunch (sandwiches, salads, beverages and dessert) will be available for $20. You’re free to brown bag your own food and beverages, but if you want to partake of the catered meals, you must mail a check so that it will arrive at the LSF Writers PO Box prior to May 1st.
